Mohammed Qahtan's Son: "We Were Handed a Headless Body"
Abdulrahman Qahtan, the son of missing Yemeni political leader Mohammed Qahtan, has revealed shocking details about the human remains handed over by the Houthis to the Joint Verification Committee in Sana'a, saying that the body was missing its head and rib cage, raising serious questions about the circumstances of his father's death.
Speaking to Al-Hodhod Platform, Abdulrahman said that only the lower half of the body was delivered, while the head and chest were completely absent. He added that only a few hand bones and a single vertebra were included among the remains.
According to him, the Qahtan family and their forensic team objected to the condition of the remains, arguing that the available evidence does not support the narrative presented by the Houthis.
He also claimed that the family faced pressure during the DNA sampling process. Four separate DNA samples were eventually collected for the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), the Yemeni government delegation, the Houthi delegation, and the Qahtan family.
Abdulrahman questioned why the Houthis requested their own DNA sample despite insisting that the remains belonged to Mohammed Qahtan, describing the move as contradictory and suspicious.
Regarding the cause of death, he said the Houthis claimed Qahtan died in an airstrike on April 21, 2015, just weeks after his abduction. However, the family rejected that explanation and demanded official evidence supporting the claim.
He added that the disappearance of the head and rib cage has strengthened the family's belief that Mohammed Qahtan may have been extrajudicially executed, and that key forensic evidence may have been deliberately removed to conceal the true cause of death.
The International Committee of the Red Cross is expected to send the DNA samples to the United Kingdom for forensic analysis, while the family says it will await the laboratory results before drawing final conclusions.
