Significant Progress in Yemen Army Restructuring… Thousands of Ghost Soldiers Exposed, Integration Phase Begins
The government of Yemen has made notable progress in implementing a plan to restructure and unify military and security forces, under the supervision and support of the Saudi-led Coalition.
Unified database reveals irregularities
According to government sources, the first phase focused on building a comprehensive personnel database using biometric verification technologies, including eye scans. This process uncovered tens of thousands of duplicate and ghost names within military records.
Officials say this step has helped clean up personnel lists and improve transparency in human resource management.
Transition to integration phase
Sources confirmed that completing this phase paves the way for the second stage, which involves integrating all military formations into a unified structure under the Ministries of Defense and Interior.
The process is overseen by Falah Al-Shahrani, amid longstanding challenges related to fragmented forces and divided loyalties.
Gradual nationwide implementation
The restructuring began in eastern regions including Hadramout, Al-Mahra, and Socotra, before expanding to Aden, Lahj, Abyan, Shabwa, and later Marib, with plans to cover the rest of the country.
Administrative and financial reforms
In this context, Defense Minister Tahir Al-Aqili chaired a meeting in Aden to review progress, stressing the need to eliminate duplication and errors in records.
Salary payments have also resumed for units that completed registration, after previous delays due to the lack of a unified database.
Toward unified military command
These measures are expected to pave the way for integrating all forces under a single command, strengthening unity and reducing fragmentation.
Meanwhile, Presidential Leadership Council member Abdulrahman Al-Mahrami directed the formation of a committee to regularize and integrate certain units into the official military structure.
Observers believe this progress marks a strategic turning point in rebuilding Yemen’s military and enhancing its capacity to ensure security and stability.
