Yemen’s Presidential Council Holds Emergency Meeting as Southern Escalation Leads to Dismissal of Two Ministers
Yemen’s Presidential Leadership Council held an emergency meeting on Wednesday morning to discuss the rapidly unfolding security and military developments in the south of the country, amid escalating tensions on the ground.
According to the official Yemeni News Agency (Saba), the meeting reviewed the statement issued by the Joint Forces Command of the Arab Coalition, which included what were described as serious warnings about escalation driven by rebellious leaders and deliberate obstruction of de-escalation efforts, in reference to the remarks concerning Southern Transitional Council President Aidarous Al-Zubaidi.
The agency reported that the Presidential Council approved the dismissal of Minister of Transport Abdul Salam Humaid and Minister of Planning and International Cooperation Waed Badheeb, referring both officials for investigation in connection with the recent developments.
The Council also decided to pursue and arrest those involved in the distribution of weapons and threats to social peace, stressing that the state will act firmly against any violations, in order to uphold the rule of law, protect public rights and freedoms, and prevent the country from sliding into further chaos and instability.
