Yemen’s Ministry of Information Reaffirms Commitment to Legitimacy After Aden Branch Declares Mutiny and Supports Secession
Yemen’s Ministry of Information, Culture, and Tourism reaffirmed that all its institutions operate strictly in accordance with the constitution and the law, firmly rejecting any attempt to involve them in unilateral political alignments or separatist projects. This came in response to a statement issued by the ministry’s branch in the interim capital, Aden, which openly declared support for the Southern Transitional Council and the secession agenda.
In an official statement received by the Yemeni News Agency (SABA), the ministry expressed deep concern over the Aden branch’s announcement, noting that it contained political positions that fall outside institutional authority and included terminology that directly contradicts the constitutional and legal frameworks governing Yemen’s transitional phase, foremost among them the Transfer of Power Declaration, the Yemeni Constitution, and relevant UN Security Council resolutions.
The ministry stressed that the only legitimate political leadership recognized locally, regionally, and internationally is the Presidential Leadership Council, headed by President Dr. Rashad Mohammed Al-Alimi. Any statements, labels, or positions that contradict this legitimacy, the ministry said, constitute an unacceptable political and legal mutiny and pose a direct threat to the unity of the Yemeni state and its institutions.
While affirming that political pluralism and freedom of expression are guaranteed, the ministry emphasized that such rights must be exercised through political parties or personal capacities—not through state institutions that represent all Yemenis and are bound by unified national references that cannot be bypassed or exploited for separatist agendas.
The ministry warned that it will not tolerate any attempts to impose political or media faits accomplis or to revive parallel authorities outside the framework of legitimacy. Legal and administrative measures will be taken against anyone found using state institutions to promote projects that undermine Yemen’s unity and sovereignty.
The statement concluded by reaffirming the ministry’s full commitment to the Transfer of Power Declaration, responsible political partnership, and efforts to restore the state and end the coup carried out by Houthi militias—describing this as the unifying national goal that allows no division or fragmentation.
