Presidential Decision Removes Aidarous Al-Zubaidi from the Presidential Leadership Council and Refers Him to the Public Prosecutor
A presidential decision was issued on Wednesday by the Chairman of Yemen’s Presidential Leadership Council, ordering the removal of Aidarous Qassem Al-Zubaidi from his membership in the Presidential Leadership Council and referring him to the Public Prosecutor.
According to the decision, the move comes in connection with accusations of committing serious violations that undermine the security and unity of the state.
The decision was based on the Yemeni Constitution, the Gulf Initiative and its Executive Mechanism, the 2022 Decision on the Transfer of Power and the Formation of the Presidential Leadership Council, as well as several applicable laws related to crimes and penalties, the trial procedures for senior officials, and military crimes. It also cited the declaration of a state of emergency in the country following the events witnessed in the southern governorates.
The decision explained that the measures were taken after it was established that Al-Zubaidi had exploited the southern issue, committed grave violations against civilians, harmed the political and economic standing of the Republic of Yemen, assaulted the Constitution and constitutional authorities, obstructed state efforts to confront rebellion and coups, fueled internal discord, and led military movements outside the framework of the state.
The decision included the following provisions:
First: Referring Aidarous Qassem Al-Zubaidi to the Public Prosecutor and suspending him from duty on charges that include:
High treason with the intent of undermining the independence of the Republic.
Damaging the military, political, and economic standing of the state.
Forming an armed group and committing killings against officers and soldiers of the armed forces.
Exploiting the southern issue, committing serious violations against civilians, and sabotaging military facilities and sites.
Assaulting the Constitution and constitutional authorities.
Violating the Constitution, breaching the law, and undermining the sovereignty and independence of the country.
Second: Officially revoking Aidarous Al-Zubaidi’s membership in the Presidential Leadership Council.
Third: Mandating the Public Prosecutor to open a comprehensive investigation and take all necessary legal measures in accordance with applicable laws.
The decision was issued by the Presidential Leadership Council and signed by its Chairman, Dr. Rashad Mohammed Al-Alimi.
